Puzzle by Patrick Blindauer / Edited by Will Shortz

If you do the Times crossword on a daily basis you have probably noted the brouhaha surrounding this week of puzzles featuring the following note:

All the puzzles this week, from Monday to Saturday, have been created by one person, Patrick Blindauer.  Keep your solutions handy, because the Saturday puzzle conceals a meta-challenge involving the solution grids of all six.  When you have the answer to the meta-challenge, send it to crossword@nytmes.com.  Twenty correct solvers, chosen at random, whose entries are received by 6:00 p.m. E.T. Sunday, October 26, 2014, will win one-year online subscriptions to the New York Times crossword.  Only one entry person, please.  The answer and winners’ names will appear on Friday, October 31, at www.nytimes.com/wordplay.

The Times sent out messages to bloggers of the puzzle to not reveal material related to same due to being the final crossword of a metapuzzle— however, the following answers were mentioned in other crossword blogs:

ALPHANUMERIC (18D. Certain character set …), AMENS (19A. Shows of appreciation for services provided?), AND/OR and DRANO (47A. Bit of writing that’s slashed?; 48A. Household brand that‘s an anagram of 47-Across), ASSET (13D. What you will?), ATRIA (32D. Pair of hearts?), BENSON (41D. Half of a cigarette?), I CLAUDIUS (31D. 1977 PBS sensation), I DIDN’T CATCH THAT (36A. “Huh?!”), ION STORMS (54A. Sci-fi disturbances), LET’S PARTY (8D. Fraternity house cry), O’ER and OAR, OATS (29A. Some Arabian food), PIE JUSU (42A. Requiem Mass part), UPDO (57A. It‘s hair-raising).
